Release Athens 2027 will make a dynamic return next summer with two new concert venues and major names, including American band The Neighbourhood and German band Tokio Hotel. The popular music festival, which has made its own mark on Greece’s concert scene through major live performances by international artists and bands at Water Plaza in Faliro, is preparing to open a new chapter by inaugurating two brand-new venues in two different parts of Attica.

The first is the Markopoulo Complex in eastern Attica, in the area where the Olympic properties that housed the Olympic Equestrian Center have stood abandoned for many years. At last, the venue, whose management recently passed into private hands following a competitive bidding process, will come back to life as Attica’s new major concert destination, with all the necessary specifications. Initial information points to two different stages, one indoor and a second housed in a 4,000 sq m tent, as well as a very large car park, which is essential for events of this kind that attract thousands of people. The venue’s proximity to Koropi Metro station is also among its key advantages.

The Neighbourhood will inaugurate the new venue on 25 June. The Californian band, whose sound combines elements of alternative rock, pop and R&B, will give its first concert on Greek soil and share its biggest hits with its Greek fans, including the songs “Sweater Weather”, “Daddy Issues”, “You Get Me So High”, “Chip Chrome & The Mono-Tones” and others.

The second new venue that Release Athens will inaugurate in the summer of 2027 is Ergostasio 35. It is located at 35A Piraeus Street & 2 G. Kondyli Street, in Moschato, and will become Athens’ first hybrid cultural venue specifically designed to operate all year round, as it has a partially retractable roof for the summer months. It will be able to accommodate 5,500 people, while its sound, lighting and technical equipment will be state-of-the-art and its stage will be able to adapt according to the needs of each event it hosts.

Tokio Hotel, the popular German band, will perform there on 7 July. Since forming in 2001, the band has charted a dynamic course spanning more than two decades and has sold more than 10 million records.

Balancing rock and pop, the German quartet of Bill Kaulitz, Tom Kaulitz, Georg Listing and Gustav Schäfer won over audiences around the world with the song “Durch den Monsun”, released in 2005 and achieving huge success. At their upcoming live performance in Athens, Tokio Hotel will present a retrospective of their earlier songs, as well as tracks from their new album, titled “Encore”.

Ticket presales for both of the above concerts will begin on Friday 2 October at 12 noon.
