An expanded government delegation is traveling to Crete this morning for a meeting and on-site inspections in areas affected by the severe weather.
The expanded government delegation will include Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Christos Dimas, Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection Evangelos Tournas, Deputy Minister of Rural Development and Food Giannis Andrianos, Deputy Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection Kostas Katsafados, and Secretary-General for Natural Disaster Recovery and State Aid Petros Kabouris.
A meeting will then be held at the Region of Crete, with the participation of the relevant authorities and representatives of local government, focusing on assessing the situation, recording the damage and coordinating action to address the consequences of the severe weather.
The government delegation will then travel to the affected areas of Mylopotamos, Ierapetra and the Lasithi Plateau in order to receive an on-site briefing on the situation and the needs that have arisen.
It is recalled that the severe weather caused serious problems in Crete. Anogeia was flooded, while the roads in Zoniana were turned into impassable routes. The destruction to crops is also incalculable, particularly on the Lasithi Plateau, where tonnes of potatoes have been buried under water, while there is also extensive damage to the infrastructure of the affected areas.
