The World Health Organization (WHO) announced that it had requested information from Russian authorities regarding media reports of a second laboratory worker with pneumonia of undetermined cause.
The WHO also requested further information to clarify the cause of the severe pneumonia and the pathogen that prompted public health measures, the organization said in a statement issued yesterday, Tuesday.
Russia’s public health agency had announced yesterday that no cases of plague had been detected among anyone who had come into contact with the laboratory worker at a Siberian anti-plague institute, who died last week.
