A court has handed a life sentence to the man who murdered Polish professor Przemyslaw Jeziorski in the Athens suburb of Agia Paraskevi in 2025.

Jeziorski, an associate professor at the University of California, Berkeley, was shot on the afternoon of 4 July 2025 in Irinis Street, in the north-east of the capital. He had travelled to Greece to see the two children he had with his former wife, an economist, and was killed in cold blood shortly before he was due to collect them. The children, who are twins, are 10 years old.

His former wife, 43, was accused of masterminding the murder. She took her own life in June 2026 while on remand in Korydallos Prison in Athens, only days after judicial authorities cleared the way for her to stand trial.

Once the victim had been identified, investigators turned to the people closest to him in Greece. They soon established that the former couple’s relationship had been stormy and that the divorce had been bitter. Police questioned the woman several times. She denied any involvement, but officers continued to build their case and eventually made arrests.

Five people were detained in July 2025, among them the former wife and her partner, who is reported to have confessed to the shooting. Three foreign nationals were charged with complicity.

Investigators say the former couple had deep disagreements not only over their children but also over money, linked to companies they had set up in the United States.
