US Secretary of State Marco Rubio is reportedly preparing to leave Donald Trump’s administration to pursue the 2028 Republican presidential nomination.
Sources in Washington and the UK government expect his departure following major Republican losses in the midterm elections, which saw the party lose control of both the House and Senate.
Insiders suggest Rubio wants to distance himself from controversial policies, including the war in Iran, to strengthen his chances against potential rival Vice President J.D. Vance.
Up to five Cabinet members could depart. However, the White House and State Department have firmly denied the reports.
