The European information-sharing mechanism has been activated following a wave of bomb threats targeting aircraft, EU Commissioner for Transport Apostolos Tzitzikostas has announced.
He said Brussels was closely monitoring developments and remained in constant contact with the affected member states and the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), adding that the European information-sharing mechanism had already been activated.

Mr Tzitzikostas also stressed that the safety and protection of citizens was an absolute priority for the European Union, describing any threat against civilians as “unacceptable”. His comments came after a series of bomb threats targeting aircraft operating flights across European countries.
At the same time, Mr Tzitzikostas called on the relevant national authorities to step up their close cooperation with airport management, airlines and police forces in order to manage the threats and implement the prescribed protocols.
Finally, he made clear that it was still too early to determine whether the incidents were connected, as investigations at national level remained fully under way.
