A million mummies discovered in Egyptian cemetery

Dating back to 1st century B.C.

American scientists discovered approximately one million (!) mummies in an Egyptian cemetery.

Scientists from the University of Utah are trying to unravel the mystery of where such a large number of mummies came from, since the nearest settlement does not justify the size of the cemetery.

According to scientists, the cemetery area included a small pyramid which was built before the burial. One of the mummies had a height of 2.1 meters, while researchers focused their attentions on a baby girl who had been buried with games and bracelets.

According to lead researcher Kerry Milestein, the cemetery in Egypt has been discovered for 30 years and, until now, 1,700 burials had been discovered. However, the total number of mummies is much higher. This is, according to the researcher, a huge and “dense” cemetery.

Most of the burials date back to 1st century B.C. when Egypt was under Roman occupation. The researchers expressed surprise over the number of mummies.
