A passenger plane crashed near the airport of Tehran

The aircraft was heading to the eastern city of Tabas

A passenger plane has crashed on Sunday morning in the west of the Iranian capital Tehran.

According to preliminary information, it is an Iranian 140 Sepahan Air jetliner that was carrying 48 people.

The aircraft was heading to the eastern city of Tabas when it went down in a residential area near Mehrabad airport for unknown reasons.

According to information, 45 passengers are dead and three are wounded, while the bodies of 10 people have been found in the wreckage of the aircraft.

There are six children among the victims.
