The government gives the ‘Green light’ on creating Cremation Centers in Greece

The necessary statutory regulations are under way by the Ministers of Interior Mr. Argyris Dinopoulos , of Development Mr. Nikos Dendias, of Health Mr. Makis Voridis and of the Environment Mr. Yiannis Maniatis, to create a unique institutional framework which will be valid among the municipalities and communities who wish to adopt the purchase and operation of incinerators .

Provisions prohibit establishing CVD at residential addresses or commercial and urban center of the city.
Attempts to resolve issues of cemeteries in major urban centers are currently taking place as the opportunity is given to municipalities that manage them to create within these ‘incineration units. ”

Furthermore, for the cremation it is stated that ” certificate drawn up within 60 days of death” and after having submitted a written statement or memorandum of the deceased wished of his incineration.

Otherwise, the application may be signed by their husbands, partners in a civil partnership or relatives of 1st and 2nd grade.

Also a certification from a coroner is required ,certifying that a further investigation is not required.
