Albania: “I’m not afraid of him, his insults don’t affect me” – Journalist’s response to being pushed by PM Rama (video)

"Today, Edi Rama realized more than ever that I ask my questions without being influenced by anyone"

Newsroom March 20 04:28

The journalist Ambrozia Meta responded to Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama, who pushed her annoyed by the question she asked, with a post on Facebook. In the post, among other things, she writes about the Albanian Prime Minister that “I’m not afraid of him” and “his insults don’t affect me.”

According to Meta, what bothered Rama were questions about shady investments in the Sazan area and whether Albanians would benefit from it.

“Trying to avoid answering, the prime minister made a rude move towards my face, violating every professional ethic. It’s an act that doesn’t scare me, just like his insults don’t affect me, because I have the courage to ask him, as I never bargain with my profession and I consider dignity sacred,” Meta writes in her post, accompanied by the video of Rama’s inappropriate move.

“Today, Edi Rama realized more than ever that I ask my questions without being influenced by anyone, as I believe they should be made in the interest of public opinion and the country, which he believes he can distribute as a family property, turning a blind eye to oligarchs – domestic and foreign. I’m very sorry that today I ended up being the news myself and not my questions, for which I desperately sought answers,” concluded the journalist from Albania in her post.

The Albanian Journalists’ Association issued a statement regarding Edi Rama’s action, emphasizing that “the prime minister’s refusal and avoidance of a specific answer was accompanied by intimidating language and a violation of ethics, even violating the physical integrity of the journalist.”

On the other hand, the international organization defending and supporting women and LGBTQ+ journalists, “Women Press Freedom,” also denounced the aggression of the Albanian Prime Minister, stating that “it is unacceptable to push a journalist. It is not the first time he has shown contempt for the critical press. We stand by Meta and demand that Rama apologize and treat journalists with respect.”
