Artwork inspired by earlier masterpieces – See photos

A unique contest proves that contemporary art has a lot to learn from the past

The contest is organized in Britain for the fifth year on the row and is entitled “Young Masters Art Prize 2014” under the gallerist Cynthia Corbett. The participants are modern, young artists, whose works are inspired by timeless masterpieces of art.
Among this year’s contestants are the Red Saunders and the photographer of Rolling Stone and GQ magazines, who has created images inspired by Rembrandt and Caravaggio. Alice Palmer, a designer who uses industrial tools to create knitted artwork in tapestry style and the young painter Caterina Voltolini, whose self-portraits are influenced by Fra Angelico and Giotto.
The special committee will declare the winner on the 29th of October.
Take a look at a few pieces of artwork inspired by earlier masterpieces.
