Russia: 1st class prison for 4,000 inmates with sauna and a museum on the way

One of the top modern prisons in the world

Russian President Vladimir Putin had announced the creation of Europe’s biggest prison back in 2006. Nine years later in 2015, it is believed that the grand opening of the 1st class prison will finally take place.
Kresty prison in St. Petersburg although it will resemble nothing of a prison, will be able to accommodate 4,000 inmates “based on European standards”, meaning that each prisoner will have available space of 7square feet.
But that is not all. Kresty prisoners will have access to a sauna, a sports complex, a gym, a concert hall, and a museum.
Currently the prison that was founded in 1730 by Anthony Tomisko at the time of Tsar Alexander the Third, hosts 1.150 detainees. According to legend, Tomisko haunts the prison and his ghost is everywhere even in the cells.
