Greece: 5.4 magnitude earthquake in Halkidiki (Upd.)

No injuries have been reported

A strong earthquake of magnitude 5.4 Richter occurred just before 2 pm in Halkidiki.

According to the updated solution of Geodynamic Institute, the earthquake was centered at 20 km SW of Athos, while the focal depth was at 19.3 km.

Within the next 15 minutes, smaller vibrations of 2.8 Richter (at 20 km SW of Athos with a focal depth of 10 km) and 2.6 Richter (at 33 km NE of Paliouri Kassandra with a focal depth of 10 km) followed.

The Euro-Mediterranean Institute gave the earthquake at 5.5 Richter, with a focus on 138 kilometers East-Southeast of Thessaloniki and a focal depth of two kilometers.

The earthquake was felt in several areas of northern Greece (Thessaloniki, Serres, Kavala, Xanthi), while there were reports from Larissa, Volos and Mytilene. The vibration was also felt in areas of Attica.
