Who much time does a perpetrator who intentionally killed an off-duty police officer in Greece serve? Well, one man was released from prison on such a conviction after roughly 20 years.
Was the man rehabilitated?
Not if you believe the latest police reports out of the northern city of Thessaloniki, where the former convict now stands accused of sexually molesting an 11-year-old boy!
Police officers arrested the 58-year-old man, described as destitute and homeless, after a witness called authorities to say he saw the former abusing the boy outside the former railway station in the city.
Based on a description, the suspect was arrested a day later, while the alleged victim was also located.
According to police, the youth recognized the man as his attacker. Just as shocking is that the boy’s mother, in her statement to police, said she was completely unaware of the incident.
The suspect in the sex assault was convicted of homicide in 1985 in a particularly hair-raising incident.
Court records show that he pulled out a shotgun and fatally wounded the police officer after first watching the victim and his girlfriend make out in a park to the north of the city. The young policeman was shot when he confronted the voyeur.
He was released 10 years ago on parole, breaking the conditions of his release and living as a fugitive ever since.
