Chrysochoidis from Evros: The country’s borders are safe and impassable

The Minister of Citizen Protection inspected the 35-kilometre-long fence, which has been under construction for some months now

The borders in Evros are safe and impenetrable, Minister of Civil Protection Michalis Chrysochoidis said from Psathades Didymoteicho, during his visit to the prefecture.

The Minister of Citizen Protection is visiting the Greek-Turkish border, he inspected the 35-kilometer-long fence that has been under construction for several months.

Early this morning, M. Chrysochoidis visited the area of Kastanee on the Turkish border.

He expressed his satisfaction with the progress of the works.

Inspecting the 35-kilometre section of the fence, he said that “in a short while, a total of 70 kilometres will be completed and then we will continue in the northern part of the prefecture”.

He announced the recruitment of 150 border guards throughout the Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, as well as pledged to modernise the technology of police services.

Speaking to ERT camera, the Minister of Citizen Protection said: “We are continuing the construction of the fence, we are shielding the border in Evros, we are supplementing and expanding the border guard team, we are recruiting another 150 border guards in Evros and in the second zone in Thrace and Eastern Macedonia.

We are here to assure the people of Evros and all Greeks that our borders will be further secured.”
