Climate activists throw soup at Monet painting in Lyon museum

The painting on display at the museum in Lyon was protected by glass

Claude Monet’s painting “Spring” has been targeted – after the Mona Lisa – by activists of the Riposte Alimentaire organisation.

The video shows the two activists throwing soup at the 1872 painting, which is fortunately protected by glass, at the museum in Lyon where the artwork is on display.

Despite the glass protection, the museum said it would proceed with a detailed inspection of the painting after the Saturday afternoon attack.

“This spring will be the last one we have available to us if we don’t react. What will future artists be painting? What will we dream of if there is no more spring?” the two activists shouted to stunned witnesses.

In a post on X, the environmental group argued that “we love art but future artists will have nothing to paint on a ruined planet.”
