The Council of State approved the deployment of 300 special guards from the Hellenic Police (ELAS) for street patrols to tackle crime. Minister of Citizen Protection Michalis Chrisochoidis proposed a draft Presidential Decree to establish 300 permanent positions for these guards.
This move aligns with Chrisochoidis’ focus on crime prevention during his fifth term in office. The draft aims to enhance citizen safety by deploying new guards in active, pedestrian, and seasonal policing, especially in high-crime areas. The Council of State’s 5th Department approved the draft, acknowledging a €28,569,130 increase in expenses for 2024-2028, to be covered by the guards’ appropriations, deemed lawful by the Council.
