Court officials and uniformed policemen to get half of their original wages

The government cannot give back the full amounts as the fiscal targets and state budget will be jeopardized

A report tabled in Parliament on Monday said that it is not possible to reinstate the monthly wages and pensions of court officials and uniformed personnel to the amounts that had originally been assessed. These would need to be reduced by 50% because otherwise fiscal targets for 2014 would not be met.

Full amounts – 695.2 million euros for Armed Forces and Security personnel and 134.2 million euros for court officials – have been slashed by half to meet state budget targets. The uniformed personnel will receive a total of 91.4 million euros and judges.prosecutors are to be given 34.8 million euros by December 31, covering the period from July 1 to December 31, 2014. The rest is to be paid in 36 monthly installments over three years.

Basic wages of judges and prosecutors will be based on the basic salary of a first-instance court judge that is at 2,067 euros per month, multiplied by factors from 0.72 to 2 for rising ranks.
