LAOS party leader’s two offshore companies under scrutiny

LAOS Leader Giorgos Karatzaferis’ wealth assets are being investigated by auditors following a request by the prosecutor’s office

Radical right-wing Popular Orthodox Rally (LAOS) leader Giorgos Karatzaferis’ wealth assets statements (known as “Pothen Esches”) are being investigated by certified auditors following the request of a Parliamentary Committee.

Source of Wealth Parliamentary Committee chairman Giorgos Kalantzis says that the request by the prosecutor’s office arrived in Parliament. The committee is investigating whether Mr. Karatzaferis has declared the two offshore companies that he jointly owns with his son. These companies are linked to remmittances worth 1.6 million euros.

The companies in question are Homeric TCI and Catalina International LTD that was renamed to Sunlight Delight in 2009. Catalina International had received money transfers worth 1,650,000 euros over two different periods.

On his part, Mr. Karatzaferis quelled rumors that he would resign as head of the LAOS party when speaking with ANT1. “I’m not retreating, not surrendering, not compromising,” he said. “The whole matter is a personal matter and has nothing to do with the party.”
