Mitsotakis in Chios: The Armed Forces are a strategic choice where its investment is consistent and continuous 

The PM was briefed on the island’s progress – Also attended was the celebration of Agios Giorgios the Trophy Bearer at the Giala military camp where he was updated on the camp’s weapon systems 

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, during his visit to Chios, stressed the importance of investing in the Armed Forces, particularly in times of geopolitical instability. He emphasized that this investment has been a strategic priority for the government over the past five years. During his visit, Mitsotakis was updated on infrastructure projects on the island, while also participating in the official celebration of Agios Giorgios, patron saint of the Army, at the Giala military camp, and also  the visited significant sites including the Massacre Museum in the Holy Monastery of Agios Minas and the Chios Gum Mastic Growers Association.

Earlier in the morning, the Prime Minister met the Mayor of Chios, Giannis Malafis, Psara, as well as Kostas Vratsanos, Oinousses and Giorgos Daniil together with representatives of local authorities. Discussed were issues of local interest and the significant reduction of irregular migration flows in the eastern Aegean. Afterwards, he visited the offices of the North Aegean Region. During the discussions updates were provided on the progress and pending issues regarding the completion and staffing of the Kori Gefyri dam, the construction of the Courthouse, the extension of the runway at the Omiros airport, and the restructuring and expansion of the building facilities at the airbase.

During the PM’s visit to Chios he went to the Massacre Museum at the Holy Monastery of Agios Minas, where he was guided by His Eminence Metropolitan of Chios, Psara, and Oinousses, Mr. Markos, through the exhibition on the Chios Massacre of 1822.

Mr. Mitsotakis praised Chios mastiha as a catalyst for innovation during his visit to the Chios Gum Mastic Growers Association. The PM expressed his delight in the potential of mastiha to spark new ideas and products, commending the association for fostering an ecosystem of companies, acknowledging their role in transforming ideas into marketable products. He also highlighted the significance of research and innovation in the industry and offered support for their endeavors.
