At the end of the second day of DIMAR’s meeting there are rapid developments within the Democratic left. Unanimously last night the party’s parliamentary group decided to ask its president Mr. Fotis Kouvelis to withdraw from leadership, while the election of the new president to take place without his candidacy.

Essentially the nine members of the party accepted Mr. Kouvelis previous resignation which was present immediately after the European elections in June. The question is how today Mr. Kouvelis will react.

According to information of the party’s parliamentary group, the leader of DIMAR requested some time to respond. Further while he invited them to argue their proposal they said that this is the only way that the Democratic Left will be able to recover and get into a new phase. Mr. Kouvelis promised that today, the third day of the conference, he will make final decisions.

It seems that the majority of the members of the group prefer as leader Mr. Yiannis Panousis, who however so far seems to be negative or Mr. Nikos Tsoukalis who has showed interest but  only in case Kouvelis withdraw.

In any case the current leader is on the spot and the most possible scenario is that if he wants to stay he probably will, but knowing that members of the party want him out, is defiantly not easy.
