Double 5.1 quakes rattle Halkida, felt in Athens (video)

The earthquakes’ focal points were 28km north west of Halkida, Evia

A double earthquqke was felt in Greece. The first magnitude 5.1 earthquake was felt at 1.05 a.m. local time on Tuesday, 76 km north of Athens and 23 km northwest of Halkida on the isle of Evia. Seismologists from the Institute of Geodynamics of the National Observatory of Athens say the quake had a depth of 10 km. The quake was felt at Attica as well as the prefectures of Viotia, Fthiotida and Evia. Prior to the final 5.1 scale measure the squakes were believed to be at 5.3 and then 5.2 on the magnitude scale.

A second tremor, of the same magnitude (5.1), was felt at 1.09 a.m local time in the same regions. This time the depth was at 5 km.

Within a few minutes, more seismic activity was noted with a magnitude 3.8 earthquake at 1.13 a.m and magnitude 3.4 at 1.18 a.m. and there was continued activity noted throughout the early hours of the morning in the city of Halkida.
