ECB’s survey: The winners and losers of the economic crisis in Europe

Ireland and Greece lost the most, while Germany and the Netherlands gained the most

A survey conducted by European Central Bank reveals the winners and losers of the economic crisis which hit Europe, as Reuters reports.

According to data released, the citizens of Ireland and Greece lost more of their personal wealth than any other euro zone country due to the economic, while Germany and the Netherlands gained the most.

In an analysis of the years between 2009 and 2013, ECB discovered that Ireland lost more than 18,000 euros per person, Greeks almost 17,000 euros and Spanish citizens about 13,000.

However, in the Netherlands and Germany the wealth per capita grew by roughly 33,000 and 19,000 respectively, due in part to a boost to financial investments over that time, as Reuters reports.

The data highlights the huge differences between the European countries, even though the survey was conducted using data before the economic recovery of Ireland and Spain.
