ENFIA tax to be paid in six installments

Finance Minister Gikas Hardouvelis will present the government’s final decisions in detail on Wednesday.

The government on Tuesday decided that the New Single Property Ownership Tax (ENFIA) will be paid in six installments and that it will be tabled in parliament next week.

The decision was taken at a broad meeting chaired by Prime Minister Antonis Samaras and attended by Government Vice-President Evangelos Venizelos, Finance Minister Gikas Hardouvelis and Alternate Finance Minister Christos Staikouras.

According to sources, Samaras and Venizelos had a separate private meeting during which they decided the changes for the anti-racism bill, also to be tabled in parliament next week.

Finance Minister Gikas Hardouvelis will present the government’s final decisions in detail on Wednesday.

These include the following changes:

– The government will review the value of land property in more than 400 regions around the country, taking into account the previous year’s land values which were cheaper.

– The government will also simplify procedures for any discount or tax exemptions

– Owners in Kefalonia will be offered an one year tax exemption after the island was hit by an earthquake recently.

The meeting also agreed that the whole property tax system will be revised to avoid any similar mistakes in the future.
