Fears number of people killed will rise

Turkey is awakening to a difficult day, after the bloody military coup attempt that started on Friday night failed to overthrow the Erdogan government. The military coup was suppressed by the the pro-Erdogan forces who are surrendering to official authorities. The Turkish President, who is regaining control of the country, vowed the ‘traitors will pay a heavy price’ and will purge the military from any officers opposite him. So far 1,563 military officers have been arrested, while 5 Generals and 29 Colonels were ceased of their duties from the Turkish Interior Ministry. According to a high ranking Turkish officer, the pro-government forces have regained control of most of the key points across Turkey, except for a few small military groups who were still resisting and controlling some military helicopters. The attacks against the Presidential Palace and the Turkish Parliament had for the most part stopped, said the same source, while the head of Turkish military, who had been hold hostage by the coup group had been freed. Meanwhile, the number of people killed has risen to more than 90 with 1,054 injured.
