Tasoulas: A vote for the best possible representation of Greece in the EU
This morning, the Speaker of the Parliament and ND MP for Ioannina, Kostas Tasoulas, cast his vote for the European elections at the 2nd High School of Ioannina.
Immediately afterward, he made the following statement: “The European Union, of which we have been a member state for 43 years, seems to understand that the time has come for strategic autonomy in terms of economic and defense power. And our country, Greece, is seeking its enhanced position within this very Europe, which is striving for its new global leadership role, in the economy, agricultural production, and border protection. Therefore, we are participating in these European elections, which appear to be the most crucial in European history, to achieve the best possible representation for Greece in the upcoming five years of European awakening.”
Schinas: More Will Want to Move Europe Forward
Vice-President of the European Commission, Margaritis Schinas, expressed optimism about the European elections and the positive message they will convey. He stated, “Today we will count ourselves, and I am confident that there will be more of us who want to move Europe forward.”
Georgios Papandreou: We want a Europe that is democratic, solidary, green, and united.
Former Prime Minister Georgios Papandreou, after exercising his voting right in Nea Erythraia, stated that today’s vote carries a dual significance. “We are sending a strong message to the government, against the continuous degradation of our quality of life, from accuracy and the environment to the rule of law. At the same time, we demand a Europe that will change,” Mr. Papandreou emphasized.
He added, “We want a Europe that is democratic, solidary, green, and united, with a strong voice for peace. Otherwise, it will sink under the threat of new fascism, authoritarianism, and the dominance of the powerful instead of the power of law.”
The former prime minister underscored that PASOK envisions “a Democratic, Participatory, Progressive Europe. The future of Europe is our concern.”
Schinas cast his vote in his hometown, Fourka Kassandra, Halkidiki, and shared his thoughts afterward: “It is a unique and special feeling to vote in a small village in Halkidiki for the great Europe. From a small country to a big family.
“I am optimistic about the European election process, the greatest moment and celebration of European democracy. For weeks, a unified public space has emerged across Europe, fostering the belief that all Europeans share a common destiny.

“I am also optimistic about the message these elections will send. Today, we will be counted, and I am sure there will be more of us who want to move Europe forward.
“From tomorrow, a new political cycle begins. The process of selecting new European leadership will commence, along with establishing new political priorities. After five years of crisis management, the Europe of the future will tackle new challenges: common defense, competitiveness, and the protection of democracy.
“We Greeks know that Europe will continue to stand by us, as it always has, our shield and spear for security and prevention.”
At Grava school, Katerina Sakellaropoulou cast her vote.
“I hope we have a high turnout,” said the President of the Republic in her statements.
