Foreign Ministry: Greece shapes its foreign policy based on respect for international law

The ministry underlined that, regarding the situation in Gaza, Greece supports the Egyptian initiative

In an announcement released on Monday, the Foreign Ministry stated that “Greece shapes its foreign policy – which is strategically stable in recent years – based on the respect for the international law and with the aim of defending its national interests. Greece acts based on these criteria in the European Union and the other international organizations it is a part of.”

The Ministry released this announcement in response to statements made by SYRIZA deputy Nadia Valavani, who criticised the government’s stance at the last EU ministerial meeting.

The ministry underlined that, regarding the situation in Gaza, Greece supports the Egyptian initiative towards a sustainable, stable truce that will allow the resumption of dialogue and an agreement on a two-state solution described at the relevant resolutions of the UN Security Council and the relevant EU official documents.

“Greece has already sent humanitarian aid of 500,000 euros through UNRWA to meet food needs and repair the water network,” the announcement noted, adding that the country has also officially declared its readiness to nurse the injured and especially children.
