Former CEO of ALTER TV Kostas Giannikos will be released after he pays 150,000 euro

He will be released from jail with bail while he will be banned on leaving the country and has to be appearing regularly in the Police station of his region

Athens Court of Appeal has decided the replacement of Mr. Kostas Giannikos
temporary custody and applied restrictive conditions instead.

The former CEO of ALTER TV channel , who was imprisoned in June of 2012, will be released from jail with bail while he will be banned on leaving the country and has to be appearing regularly in the Police station of his region.

The prison doors however, will open for the former strong man of ALTER TV only when he has paid the total of 150,000 euro bail, for the two convictions which pending against him. The two convictions are related to non-payment of tax and payroll tax for the ALTER TV. If and when the payments of the amounts are made then Mr. Giannikos will be released immediately.

The replacement request of the temporary detention of Mr. Giannikos was filed by his counsel for a second time as the case previously had been postponed.

This is the second postponement of the case. The first was given after he had accepted a plea of nullity of the summons. The court then ordered the government to submit a detailed statement of the wages paid to employees of ALTER during the relevant period and the balanced-paid wage-calculated amount of the payroll tax, which should be retained by the company.

These documents, however, were not produced in court and for this reason the trial postponed until the 12th of December 2014.
