Following a request by new Parliament President Zoe Constantopoulou to all former prime ministers and certain ex-MPs hand over office space in Parliament, former New Democracy Prime Minister Constantine Mitsotakis refused.
Mitsotakis instead called on Constantopoulou to reconsider her decision, given his six decades of Parliamentary presence.
At the same time his daughter and former minister Bakoyanni also objected of her father handing over his office, as Parliament rules entitle former Prime Ministers to keep an office in Parliament.
The Parliament president, herself the daughter of leftist political leader Nicos Constantopoulos, said former Prime Minister Costas Simitis has no problem handing over his office as long as he is provided with another secure space, since he is a terrorist target.
Finally, she referred to one-time PM George Papandreou, who also accepted the request as long as he is given another office somewhere else.
