Former President Sartzetakis laid to rest in Athens

The funeral took place in a closed family circle

Newsroom February 7 12:19

The last farewell to the former President of the Republic, Christos Sartzetakis, is currently taking place in a close family circle due to the health measures.

His funeral is held with the honours of a head of state “as a minimum tribute to the exceptional services he offered to the people, the homeland and the nation”, while the services were preceded by a three-day public mourning period.

In a state of emotion, with applause and military tributes, his relatives and friends said goodbye forever to their own President.

According to an announcement from the office of the late former President of the Republic, due to the sanitary measures, the burial of Christos Sartzetakis will be performed in a close family circle in the First Cemetery of Athens.

The family expressed the desire for any donations to be deposited in the Floga: Association of Parents of Children with Neoplastic Disease and in the Home Social Care Center for people with mental retardation.
