France: ‘Deep sleep’ option instead of euthanasia

The new bill enables patients who are in the final stage to “sleep before they die so they don’t suffer”

The French Parliament decided to adopt a bill allowing patients who are in the last stage of a terminal disease to use “deep sedation” until the end of their life.

The bill would apply only for patients with “severe and incurable illnesses” and situations described accurately by the proposed law in order these patients to “sleep before they die so they don’t suffer”.

The “deep sedation” prospect would need approval by a medical team in cases involving a patient “whose life will end in a short time” and when the condition of (pain) cannot be improved with any type of treatment.
