Georgiadis: Kasselakis calls for reduction in healthcare

The Minister of Health emphasised growth in public expenditure in healthcare

The Minister of Health, Adonis Georgiadis, reacted strongly to comments made by the president of SYRIZA, Stefanos Kassalakis, regarding healthcare, particularly his call for allocating “at least 5% of GDP on public health” if he were to become prime minister. Georgiadis, in response, highlighted that Kassalakis’ proposal implies a reduction in healthcare expenses, pointing out that in 2022, healthcare expenditure was at 5.1% of GDP according to ELSTAT, and currently estimated at around 5.8% of GDP.

Furthermore, the Minister of Health noted that public expenditure, from 8.634 billion in 2018, has reached 10.881 billion in 2022 and has further increased in 2023 and 2024.
