German Vice-Chancellor Gabriel to arrive in Athens on 3-day visit

He will meet with Energy Minister Skourletis and sing a statement, Friday

German Vice Chancellor and Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy, Sigmar Gabriel is visiting Greece, Thursday and will meet with Greek Energy and Environment Minister Nikos Sourletis to discuss the prospect of German investments in the country. The head of the German socialist party SPD, who will stay for 3 days in Greece, is expected to convey a message of solidarity to the country, according to German magazine ‘Focus’. ‘Greece must recover and Germany will not decline to offer help if asked’, Gabriel will say, according to Focus. The Vice Chancellor will arrive in Athens accompanied by a delegation of 40 businesspeople interested in exploring investment opportunities in the field of renewable energy in the country. Gabriel and Greek Minister Skourletis will co-sign a statement of collaboration on Friday. Focus writes that among those accompanying the Vice Chancellor are either heads or representatives companies such as Mitsubishi, Hochtief, state bank KfW, TUI tour operators, Solarworld, Nordex, Bayer and BASF. It is the first time a German Minister of Economy has visited Greece for five years. Deutsche Welle reports that Gabriel is attempting to bolster support to investments in Greece.
