More than 5,000 hours of volunteerism paid off for 31 Greek expats living in Dubai who staged a play at Ductac – the mall of Dubai – to help raise 25,000 euros for the homeless people affected by the recession in Greece. The satirical comedy, “Babades with Chantilly”, written by popular comedy duo Michalis Reppas and Thanassis Papathanassiou, depicts how a family becomes a family of murderers because of greed.

The play was chosen to cast emphasis on materialism in the Eighties and how it resembles what is happening in present-day Greece.

“Our main goal is the financial support to charity groups in Greece in order to give some solutions to problems faced in the country,” says amateur actress Anargyri Garavela, a member of the Thespis, comprised solely of volunteer actors in the UAE.

Over 500 Greeks gathered to enjoy the performance – the largest ever gathering of Greek expats in Dubai under one roof.
