Greek Governor Y. Stournaras says Greece has done better than expected

IMF-World Bank officials in Washington told Central Bank Governor Yannis Stournaras that Greece did better than expected when dealing with the economic crisis

Central Bank Governor Yannis Stournaras said on Saturday that people abroad believe that Greece has done much better than expected in handling the economic crisis. He came to this conclusion following a series of meetings with economists and bankers in Washington where the annual conference of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank are taking place.

“Everyone believes that Greece didbetter than expected, as it was mentioned during the IMF meetings,” said Mr. Stournaras. “This is important and everyone wants this progress to continue.” Mr. Stournaras said that he hopes that Greece can move onto the next phase and begin to put the crisis behind.

On the sidelines of the conference, Mr. Stournaras met with European Central Bank (ECB) Chief Mario Draghi as well as other bankers from private credit institutions and investment funds.
