Greek Journalists honour Elias Dimitrakopoulos for his work

He played a role in revealing the Watergate scandal in the US

The Journalists’ Union of Athens Daily Newspapers (ESIEA) Cultural Foundation will honour journalist Elias Dimitrakopoulos posthumously for his lifelong contribution to free press and journalism, Wednesday April 20. Dimitrakopoulos was instrumental in uncovering the Watergate scandal and the eventual fall of the US President Richard Nixon. He was a vehement anti-dictatorship advocate and fought against the Greek junta in the 1960s and 70s. In 1970 the Greek colonel’s dictatorship revoked his Greek citizenship. Before his death in 2016 the President of the Hellenic Republic awarded him with the Order of the Phoenix.
