Greek President to be declared honourary citizen of the Greek-speaking villages of Lower Italy

The Greek President will visit the south of Italy

The Italian press is covering the visit of the President of the Hellenic Republic, Katerina Sakellaropoulou, scheduled for the upcoming days in the Greek-speaking villages of Lower Italy.

According to the Gazzetta del Mezzogiorno newspaper, “the President of the Hellenic Republic, Katerina Sekallaropoulou, will be declared an honourary citizen of the Greek-speaking villages of Lower Italy, during her visit on April 9 and 10”.

The officials of the municipalities of the area emphasise that “in this way, they express the feeling of deep friendship and appreciation of the inhabitants of the Greek-speaking villages of Puglia, of Grecìa Salentina”.

The mayor of Castrignano Dei, Greci, Roberto Casalucci, adds: “It is a real honour for all of us to be able to celebrate the twentieth anniversary of the founding of the Union of Municipalities of Grecìa Salentina, with the visit of Mrs. Sakellaropoulou.” “We still live intensely the relationship with the Greek people and for this reason, we could not hope for greater satisfaction from the presence of its high representative, with all its prestige.”

According to the Gazzetta del Mezzogiorno, the President of the Republic is going to visit this area, and its inhabitants are looking forward to presenting their folk traditions, with special emphasis on the songs and rituals of Holy Week.
