Greek protests to Turkey over French research vessel L’Atalante

The Greek Embassy said the ship was sailing in Greek territorial waters

Newsroom April 21 11:32

The Greek Embassy in Ankara issued an official protest to the Turkish Foreign Ministry over the issue of the L’Atalante ship, according to diplomatic sources.

The Greek diplomats pointed out that the French research ship was sailing in an area of Greek jurisdiction – that is, in Greek territorial waters and EEZs – and that the competent station for the issuance of Navtex was the coastal station of Heraklion, Crete.

In the remonstration by the Greek embassy in Ankara to officials of the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, it was pointed out that the Turkish authorities have no jurisdiction in the area where the French ship L ‘Atalante was sailing.

Competent sources told protothema.gr that no attempt was made to harass the French research ship by the Turkish side.
