Greek woman arrested in Turkey on charges of aiding Gülen symathisers

The woman, 45, was detained at the border of Evros

A 45-year-old woman Greek is being held by Turkish authorities after she was arrested on Tuesday at the Customs, in Evros, on the charge of hiding in her vehicle two Syrian immigrants who may be connected to the exiled Islamic preacher in the USA and opponent of Tayyip Erdogan Fethullah Gülen, who considered a terrorist by the Turkish state.

The woman is in the custody of Turkish police and is facing serious charges, while she is unable to communicate with her family, as her father told protothema.gr.

“They were two Syrians, among those who fell victim to the devastating earthquake. They didn’t go in the trunk but in the back seat. My daughter’s car is a convertible and does not have room in the trunk for two people. So when my daughter entered the Customs office one of the two jumped into her car to take him through the border. Then the Turkish police saw him and arrested them all,” is the version of the prisoner’s father.

According to the Turkish side, the two men, for whom it has not been clarified whether they are indeed Syrian immigrants or Turkish supporters of Fethullah Gülen, intended to enter Greece illegally with the help of the 45-year-old woman, who regularly entered and exited Turkey.

The Consulate of Andrianopolis has been informed about the matter and the case has been taken over by a lawyer from Turkey in order to make the necessary efforts for the release of the 45-year-old woman.
