Greeks consumers least informed among EU28 about their rights

Greeks most prone to avoid ‘conflict’ over business transactions

According to Greek office of European Consumer Centre, Greece has the least engaging consumers when it comes to resolving customer disputes. The Director of the European Consumer Centre in Greece, Athena Kontogianni said that Greece has the highest percentage of consumers who, while facing a non-negligible issue in their transactions were the least likely to pursue a resolution of the matter. On occasion of Global Consumer Day, March 15, Kontogianni said that Greeks came last among the EU28 when choosing to resolve transaction disputes, and the awareness they displayed as consumers, issues she stressed posed a great challenge for Greek consumers. This complacency compounds the mistrust Greeks have to retailers and service businesses, she pointed out. This has prompted the European Consumer Centre to push a series of actions to promote awareness of consumer rights starting from school education, Kontogiannis said. Within the framework of an public awareness campaign the Centre along with the independent body ‘Consumer’s Ombudsman’ have published a leaflet with 10 basic consumer rights every one should be informed of called ‘Are you a consumer?
