Guardian, BBC on Lafazanis’ next move

SYRIZA split continues to make headlines

Guardian focused on a statement by hardline leftist Panagiotis Lafazanis, who said he will seek a mandate after 25 MPs left Syriza to become third-largest party in Greek parliament. The statement came during a press conference announcing the creation of the… the Popular Unity party, with Lafazanis at its helm.
The UK-media group notes that under Greece’s constitution, the three biggest parties in parliament are given a three-day mandate to form a government, following the resignation of Alexis Tsipras as prime minister.

Meanwhile, the BBC referred to “rebels” that broke away to form a new party.
In referring to Lafazanis, the network cited his statement that he’s ready to respect the result of the July 6 referendum, in which 61 percent of voters in the poll voted “no” to terms of a bailout tabled days earlier by international creditors.
A later bailout eventually signed and delivered by the SYRIZA government entailed even harsher terms, one of the reasons for the split.
