Human remains from World War II found on islet Theodorou

The bones were collected and will be sent to special labs for identification

Human remains were located on Sunday on the islet Theodorou in the Gulf of Chania, Crete, from people who visited the islet in the framework of a series of parallel events for the 77th anniversary of the Battle of Crete.

The remains were found in an area where are parts from a German military aircraft that was shot down during invasion of the Germans on Crete in 1941.

The bones were collected and will be sent to special labs for identification.

The islet Theodorou is a protected area and visits are allowed only by the forest agency’s permission.
