Inmate Nikos Romanos is on hunger strike for the 28th day on Sunday in a bid to place pressure on the government to allow him to attend a course he successfully entered at the Technical Education Institute of Athens. The rejection of his educational furlough caused him to start his hunger strike on November 10. His health is deteriorating say doctors at Gennimatas Hospital where he is being held, refusing to take anything but water.

A number of prisoners have also started hunger strikes in support of their fellow prisoner’s right to study.

More than 200 Syrian refugees have launched a hunger strike outside Greek Parliament calling for asylum and medical assistance. The hunger strike on Sunday is in its 18th day. Men, women and children are sleeping in cardboard boxes and sleeping bags outside Greek Parliament in a bid to place pressure on the government to help them.
