Igoumenitsa: two arrests by the Coast Guard for over 1,000 smuggled cigarette packs

They intended to transport them abroad

In the evening hours of Thursday, officers of the Coast Guard’s Narcotics Division arrested a 56-year-old foreigner for smuggling tobacco products.

Specifically, in a control carried out on a truck – superimposed, which was driven by the 56 year old, at the entrance gate of the Igoumenitsa port of entry, 789 packets of contraband cigarettes were found carefully hidden in various parts of the tractor, which lacked a special Greek excise tax strip.

The 56-year-old intended to transport them illegally abroad.

The Central Port Authority of Igoumenitsa, which is conducting the preliminary investigation, seized the F/G vehicle – superimposed as well as the quantity of contraband cigarettes.

At the same time, last night another 56-year-old foreigner was arrested for the same reason.

Specifically, in a control carried out on a truck – superstructure, which was driven by the 56-year-old foreigner, at the entrance gate of the foreign port of Igoumenitsa, four hundred and ten (410) packets of contraband cigarettes, which lacked a special Greek excise tax band, in order for the 56-year-old to illegally transport them abroad.
