Multi-national firms choose other transferring options due to migrants’ block

Multi-national firms and Greek exporters face huge problems since they are not able to transfer their goods

Protesting migrants who have stuck in Idomeni, Greece’s border with FYROM have caused rail services to be suspended resulting to serious economic consequences. Multi-national firms and Greek exporters face huge problems since they are not able to transfer their goods.

International firms ship their goods to Piraeus and then using rail links transport them to central Europe. But, since the railway in northern Greece has stopped operating, they can’t transfer their good.

As Kathimerini notes, Hewlett Packard has already shipped its goods scheduled to be transferred through railway from Piraeus through Slovenia. HP was the first major multinational firm which chose Piraeus to transfer its goods to Europe.

It is estimated that there are many companies that have goods waiting at Greece’s borders or ports to be loaded and transferred to Europe and they are searching for other alternatives causing huge economic consequences.
