Tension between the Turkish government and Kurdish militants has escalated with violence in Istanbul and Sirnak.
Four police officers were killed in a bomb attack at Sirnak province followed by gunmen open firing on a military helicopter leading to a dead solder.
In one of the attacks on the US consulate in Istanbul lead to the injury of one of the femae assailants whose rifle and other weaponry were seized. The woman involved in the attack is a member of a radical marxist grup known as the Revolutionary People’s Liberation Front. The DHKP-C had previously been responsible for a 2013 suicide bombing on the US embassy in Ankara.
Another Istanbul attack took place on a police station in the district of Sultanbeyli where a car bomb exploded, injuring 10 people.
Tension flared between Turkey and the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) when a military helicopter in Sirnak province bombed PKK camps in northern Iraq at the same time as launching air strikes on IS militants. PKK leader Cemil Bayik accused Turkey of trying to protect ISIS by attacking Kurdish fighters.
