ND criticises govt over allowing rogue state employees ‘loophole’ for return

Forget court convictions… dismissals require disciplinary board approval

Main opposition New Democracy on Wednesday took straight aim at a law passed by the leftist SYRIZA government that allows rogue civil servants and professionals employed in the narrow or wider public to return to their posts while their cases are before the courts or disciplinary boards.
ND blamed current Labour Minister Giorgos Katrougalos, who passed the measure when he served as administrative reform minister in the first seven-month SYRIZA government this year.
The biggest change in the law is allowing sacked employees to remain even if convicted, as their dismissal must be validated by a disciplinary board, usually comprised by peers and administrative officials from relevant ministries.
