ND leads SYRIZA by 14.5% in latest poll

People are dissatisfied with the government’s handling of the pandemic crisis

Ruling New Democracy commands a 14.5-point lead against SYRIZA, while KINAL/PASOK records a substantial rise, according to pollsters Abacus for Alpha TV.

The first poll of Abacus was completed before the advent of bad weather “Elpis”. The company, however, was quick to gauge the public’s reaction to the government’s management of the crisis, with today’s measure – and the result is indicative, with 80% expressing a negative view of the handling and degree of readiness of the state apparatus to manage the weather.

The data confirms ND’s lead despite government erosion, as well as the very low percentages of SYRIZA and Alexis Tsipras, who appear even lower in popularity than the percentage of SYRIZA in the intention to vote.

At the same time, the poll records KINAL as closing the gap as a serious contender for the second spot.

The interesting thing is that in the vote estimate, ND is recorded with percentages from 36% to 39%, with a four-party Parliament, since according to the result of the count, the “Hellenic Solution” party of Velopoulos and DiEM25 of Yanis Varoufakis do not reach the 3% threshold, meaning that a possible absolute majority for the ruling party is facilitated in if a second ballot was to be held under the system of enhanced proportional representation of Theodorikakou’s law.

ND has a range tween 36% -39%, SYRIZA at 20% -23% and KINAL at 18% -21%, the Communist party (KKE) at 6.5% -7.5% while Hellenic Solution and Day 25 at 2% -2.5%, which means that if the elections were held now, they would fail to elect MPs.

On the pandemic front, 36% were disappointed with the government’s handling of the situation compared to 34% who believed the government did a good job.

The survey was conducted between 19 and 23 January via phone and included a sample of 1,012 adult males and females.
