New ledges for the disabled installed at 74 public transport stops in Athens (photos)

They will be ready by May

Newsroom January 20 03:36

The Athens Mass Transit System (OASA) is installing new special ledges at bus and trolley bus stops around the city to improve the accessibility of people with disabilities to public transport.

The new ledges have already been installed at 74 stops in Athens, Agios Dimitrios, Kallithea, Agia Paraskevi, Egaleo, Acharnes, Zografou, Ilioupoli, and Moschato. Their installation is part of a project that provides for the installation of a total of 409 ledges at 152 stops, to facilitate the access of all passengers and especially the disabled people to buses and trolleybuses.

According to the plan, the ledges are placed in stops that are located, mainly, around Fixed Orbit Media stations and their installation is expected to be completed by next May. Taking into account that the stations of Fixed Orbit are fully accessible to People with Disabilities, this move creates a more functional transportation network for the disabled.
