New loophole allows cuts in pensions of less than 1,300 euros

The word “recalculation” referring to the supplementary pensions has been changed into “adjustment”

A new loophole in Article 6 of the ministerial decision allows new cuts in pensions. In the Article, the word “recalculation” referring to the supplementary pensions has been changed into “adjustment”.

As Eleftheros Typos newspaper mentions, the supplementary pension has now been named as personal difference allowing new cuts in pensions of less than 1,300 euros. The Article 6 provides that if the amount of main and supplementary pension is equal to or less than 1,300 euros, then the supplementary pensions is paid as personal difference.

The change of supplementary pension to personal difference, as well as the word ‘recalculation’, paves the way to adjustments, i.e. cuts, even before the end of 2016. Based on the provision already set, the procedure for pension adjustments will begin immediately and will be completed until September 2017.
